The Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) was established on 9 October 2012 as the first formal representative body for the global insurance industry.
It had been preceded by an informal network, the International Network of Insurance Associations (INIA), which had been active since 2008. GFIA represents its 40 member associations and one observer member, which represent insurers and reinsurers in 64 countries, on issues of common interest. It is incorporated in Switzerland and its secretariat is based in Brussels.
